The 611 Merit Scholarship Endowment

It all started in 2008 when the first Scholars from the class if 2011 were recognized for their scholarship as well as service to Lehigh. A cash award accompanied the plaques presented. The last award of this gift took place in the fall of 2019 at which time it was decided the time had come to endow this award as a scholarship.

The 611 model (the cooperative workings of the Class of 1961 and 2011) has proven successful in leveraging the student/alumni involvement that Lehigh University depends upon. The Class of 1961 adopted the Class of 2011 during their freshmen year and still today this partnership has continued to grow and benefit the University. Now this award is graduating to a higher level as an endowed scholarship. A core group from the class pledged cash contributions.

During 2021 a class steering committee set short term and long-term goals for establishing the program as the 611 Merit Scholarship.   Long term we ask class members to add a meaningful bequest in their will thereby perpetuating the scholarship.

This 611 scholarship is awarded to an upper class junior or senior based on exhibiting exemplary service to Lehigh in addition to usual requirements of academic excellence and service to Lehigh and its community. It is expected that the awardee will become a Lehigh for Life person continuing to help as an alum after graduation.

Lastly, in preparing your estate, please consider amending your will to include a bequest of five or six figures to this endowment. Please email or call Molly Drisoli with the amount you are considering. (Email: mkk322@lehigh.edu  Direct:610-758-4874). You will be helping future active alumni, the lifeblood of Lehigh perpetuity.
